Antioxidants are molecules that are capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. It is often explained by likening Oxidation to the process of Rust in metals. The cells of your body oxidize (or rust) in the same way, wearing  down and aging the cells faster than they would normally.  The oxidation process is caused by “Free Radicals” in your system.  These can be created from a variety of things like smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, foods fried in oils and fats and many other sources.

Antioxidants are found in many foods such as vegetables, fruits, grain cereals, and nuts.  In general processed foods contain fewer antioxidants than fresh and uncooked foods.

Antioxidants can neutralize cell-damaging, disease causing particles known as free radicals.
